Randal Christensen, MD, MPH

Chief Clinical Information Officer JOINED CCHCI IN 2021 Why I Believe in the Mission of CCHCI

I have had the pleasure of working in non-profits for the entirety of my professional career. From the start of my college experience to now I have seen the remarkable things that people can achieve when supported through organizations like CCHCI. Health For All means a chance to succeed, to grow, to have truly get a chance at health and well-being.

Randal'S BACKGROUND

Dr. Christensen began his career in Arizona, graduating with a BA in Sociology from the University of Arizona in 1990. He earned both his MD and MPH degrees from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1995. He completed a four-year combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics program in Phoenix, Arizona. Post-graduation, he worked at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where he served as the Medical Director of the Crews’n Healthmobile, the Division Chief of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, and the President of the Medical Staff. In 2016, Dr. Christensen became the Chief Medical Officer for the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Nevada, where he started a mobile unit to serve street populations in Las Vegas. In 2020, he helped implement COVID-19 centers for the State of California before returning to Tucson, Arizona. Currently, he is the Chief Clinical Information Officer for Chiricahua Community Health Centers.

Throughout his career, Dr. Christensen has been dedicated to serving medically underserved populations, advocating for them in Washington, D.C., and initiating programs like the Crews’n Healthmobile. This initiative, started in 2000, now includes several mobile medical units and fixed clinic locations providing comprehensive services to homeless children and adolescents in Phoenix and surrounding areas. The team has also recently initiated a resiliency clinic for abuse and human trafficking victims.

Over the past four years, Dr. Christensen’s role at Chiricahua Community Health Centers has focused on quality, safety, risk, compliance, and informatics. His experience in patient advocacy and systems development is helping to advance the mission and vision of the organization in Southern Arizona.

Dr. Christensen has received numerous awards, including Health Care Hero by the Phoenix Business Journal, CNN’s Medical Marvel, People Magazine’s Heroes Among Us, and the Dr. Richard Carmona National Doorway of Hope Award. He authored the book, “Ask Me Why I Hurt: The Kids Nobody Wants and the Doctor Who Heals Them.”
