I have had the pleasure of working in non-profits for the entirety of my professional career. From the start of my college experience to now I have seen the remarkable things that people can achieve when supported through organizations like CCHCI. Health For All means a chance to succeed, to grow, to have truly get a chance at health and well-being.
I was born in a tiny town in Utah that was so small it actually doesn’t exist anymore. Much of my young life was spent in Colorado and Arizona. My mother’s family farmed the land in southern New Mexico and my father’s family farmed the land in northern Montana. While neither my parents became farmers they were hard working and greatly valued education. This was clearly evident as they were incredibly proud when I was accepted into medical school.
At Phoenix Children’s Hospital I was able to lead a team in the development of a mobile medical unit to care for underserved and vulnerable patients. This program led to a team of over 30 that currently still work in Phoenix to care for homeless youth. I was honored to share this story in the book, Ask Me Why I Hurt.
