Community Health Work

Our Community Health Workers can be vital lifeline connecting critical healthcare services to some of our most vulnerable and rural communities. Below, two of our Community Health Workers, Martin and Erika, were recognized by the Arizona Community Health Workers Association for going above, beyond (and sometimes up a mountain!) to take care of our patients. We are grateful for the dedication our Community Health Workers have to the people of Cochise County.

Chiricahua's determination to bring care to all people in every community of Cochise County requires strategies that are both creative and unique. We actively locate and provide health services to the most vulnerable members of our communities. A dedicated team of Chiricahua's Community Health Workers regularly visit food banks, shelters, farm fields and any other location or population where we are concerned that an unmet health need exists.

Community Health Work initiatives include: 

Migrant & Seasonal Farmworker Program - Chiricahua has served farmworkers since our inception in 1996. We are very proud of our designation as not only a Federally Qualified Health Center, but also as a health center that serves migrant and seasonal farmworkers. Our method of approach is based on promotora outreach. Lay health workers are trained to work with their community to provide education, support, advocacy and basic health services. Our staff is devoted to improving the lives of the people who support our agriculture industry and that effort is repaid many times over through such simple words as, "gracious a ustedes por preocuparse por nosotros."

Health Fair Participation - The Community Health Workers of CCHCI can often be seen at local health fairs or health related events. We happily provide free blood pressure checks, blood sugar screenings, and cholesterol readings. Our Community Health workers also can provide first aid stations at public events when requested.
