In January 2026, Chiricahua Community Health Centers participated in critical global health discussions in Davos, Switzerland. This important Chiricahua news reflects the organization’s continued leadership in elevating rural and underserved patient voices on the world stage. Under the guidance of Dennis Walto, MA, Chiricahua brought community-based experience and patient-centered strategies into conversations taking place alongside the World Economic Forum.

This chapter of Chiricahua news began in January 2025, when Dennis Walto was contacted by Dr. Mimi Choon-Quinones. Dr. Choon-Quinones is a PhD medical anthropologist, an international commercial lawyer, a blood cancer research scientist, and the founder of Partners for Patients, a Swiss nonprofit organization. She also serves as Ambassador and Senior Advisor on Public Health to the Pan African Parliament of the African Union.
Dr. Choon-Quinones invited Chiricahua to join a Health Equity Panel during the 2026 World Economic Forum. The panel was hosted by Partners for Patients as part of its Health Equity Action Lounge, known as HEAL. HEAL is a series of high profile panel discussions and convenings held concurrently with the World Economic Forum, bringing together leaders from healthcare, policy, research, and social mobilization.
For Dennis Walto, this invitation represented an opportunity to share Chiricahua’s real world experience and ensure that rural perspectives were included in global health equity news and dialogue.
On Sunday, January 18, 2026, Chiricahua joined the Partners for Patients delegation to meet Dr. Choon-Quinones and international colleagues. Upon arrival, the Chiricahua team participated in setting up the HEAL base of operations and preparing for the official events scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
The following morning, the delegation assembled in Lenzerheide, approximately one hour from Davos. They traveled together into the city to complete preparations and finalize arrangements for upcoming panel and roundtable discussions. This collaborative effort reflected the values Dennis Walto consistently emphasizes in Chiricahua’s work, including shared responsibility, partnership, and mission driven leadership.
This early engagement marked the beginning of a significant week of Chiricahua news and international collaboration.

Tuesday, January 20, 2026 marked the first official event day and a major moment in Chiricahua news coverage. Working closely with Dr. Mimi Choon-Quinones, Dennis Walto helped facilitate and moderate the first Partners for Patients roundtable discussion, titled Africa Beats Cancer.
The session focused on cancer prevention, screening, and treatment, with a particular emphasis on HPV related cancers. During the discussion, Chiricahua shared proven, data informed vaccine integration strategies developed for rural and under resourced communities. These approaches have successfully increased HPV vaccine uptake and support the global End Cervical Cancer campaign led by Chiricahua partner, the Sabin Vaccine Institute.
Dennis emphasized the urgency of this work. According to the World Health Organization, HPV related cervical cancer claims nearly 80,000 lives each year in Africa. Globally, one in three men carries the virus. The HPV vaccine is scientifically proven to prevent cancer, making effective access strategies essential.
Chiricahua’s use of non traditional vaccine access locations – in this case integrating vaccines into dental clinic settings – drew strong interest from participants. Partners involved in Africa Beats Cancer expressed that these strategies could be adapted within their own regions, extending the reach of this Chiricahua inspired news and practices far beyond Cochise County.

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Chiricahua continued to shape health equity news during a discussion that brought together leaders from private equity, pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and social mobilization organizations.
Dennis Walto co-moderated the session, ensuring that the patient voice remained central to the conversation. A key topic was the Most Favored Nation pharmaceutical pricing proposals currently under consideration in the United States. Walto spoke on behalf of under resourced and rural communities, highlighting the real world impact of pricing decisions on access to care.
Special attention was also given to Federally Qualified Health Center requirements for patient majority boards of directors. Dennis explained how this governance model strengthens accountability and equity, and how similar approaches could be adopted by private equity, pharma, and other sectors seeking to apply a stronger equity lens within their leadership structures.
This exchange reinforced the relevance of Chiricahua’s model and contributed meaningful perspective to global health policy news.
Engagement and Continued Collaboration
While Thursday, January 22, 2026 was not an official Partners for Patients event day, it remained productive. Dennis Walto participated in additional convenings hosted by partner organizations and engaged in bilateral meetings with key stakeholders across global health, research, and policy sectors.
These conversations built momentum for future collaboration and strengthened Chiricahua’s reputation as a trusted contributor to international health equity news.
