Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Make Screening a Priority

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor those who have faced breast cancer, celebrate survivors, remember those we have lost, and encourage our communities to take an active role in their breast health. For women throughout southeastern Arizona, staying up to date with breast cancer screening in Cochise County is an important part of preventive health care.

Awareness matters, but taking action matters even more.

One of the most important steps you should take is staying up to date with breast cancer screening. Mammograms can help detect breast cancer before symptoms appear, often when it may be easier to treat.

Don’t Wait Until Something Feels Wrong

A screening mammogram is designed to look for breast cancer in people who do not have signs or symptoms. That is exactly why keeping up with routine screening is so important.

For many women, mammograms are an important part of regular preventive health care. How often you should be screened can depend on your age, family history, personal health history and individual breast cancer risk.

Talk with your health care provider about when you should begin mammograms and how often you should be screened.

The important thing is simple: know when you’re due and don’t put off your screening.

Breast Cancer Screening in Cochise County: Mobile Mammography October 28 & 29

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Assured Imaging Mobile Mammo will be available for screening mammograms only on:

Wednesday, October 28
Thursday, October 29

These mobile mammography days provide another opportunity for eligible patients who are due for their routine screening mammogram to make their breast health a priority.

Please remember that these appointments are for screening mammograms only. If you are experiencing a new breast lump, nipple discharge, skin changes, persistent pain or another unusual change, talk with your health care provider about the appropriate next step rather than waiting for a routine screening appointment.

No Insurance? Chiricahua’s Well Woman HealthCheck Program May Be Able to Help

Cost or lack of insurance should not prevent someone from getting an important cancer screening.
