Chiricahua provides much more than clinical care to their community.

At Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc., healthcare is about far more than what takes place inside an exam room. Serving a rural area comparable in size to Connecticut and Rhode Island combined, our team is dedicated to meeting people where they are: bringing compassionate, comprehensive care directly into the heart of our communities.

From mobile medical units visiting remote ranching areas to pediatric outreach, dental programs, and specialized care across Cochise County, our mission extends well beyond traditional clinic walls. But to deliver on this promise every day, our entire network relies on a strong foundation: uninterrupted power.

The Challenge: Life at the End of the Grid

Being situated in a rural region means facing extreme desert heat, monsoon storms, and localized electrical grid vulnerabilities. In places like Douglas, Arizona, located at the very end of the service line, sudden power outages were once a frequent disruption.

A loss of power does not just mean dark hallways; it threatens critical operations:

  • Temperature-Sensitive Vaccines and Medications: Lifesaving vaccines, insulin, and specialized pharmaceuticals must be kept strictly temperature-controlled.
  • Essential Treatments: Procedures using powered medical equipment, from nebulizers to dental machinery, require steady, reliable energy.
  • Community Mobility: Our outreach operations, scheduling networks, and digital medical records depend on continuous electronic connectivity to keep field teams and stationary clinics synchronized.

Powering Hope: Solar Energy and Microgrid Resilience

To protect our patients and ensure continuous care no matter what the weather brings, Chiricahua partnered with Collective Energy to install solar microgrids and battery storage systems across our facilities.

As highlighted by The Builders Network, these solar and storage installations act as a vital safety net. Now, when the main electrical grid experiences an outage, our clean energy microgrids automatically kick in, allowing us to seamlessly maintain critical healthcare operations without missing a beat.

Keeping Our Community Moving Forward

By achieving energy independence, Chiricahua accomplishes two essential goals:

  1. Uncompromised Care Continuity: Whether our providers are in the clinic or out in the field delivering mobile healthcare services, our operations remain fully functional, safe, and dependable.
  2. Reinvesting Savings into the Community: Harnessing clean solar power reduces operational energy costs. Every dollar saved on utility bills is a dollar redirected straight back into expanding community health initiatives, mobile clinics, and specialized care programs across rural Cochise County.

At Chiricahua, energy resilience is not just an infrastructure upgrade. It is a vital tool that keeps our doors open, our mobile services moving, and our community healthy and protected every single day.
