Painless Precision: Chiricahua Transforms Dental Care in Cochise County

At Chiricahua Community Health Centers, our mission has always been to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to everyone in our community. We believe that living in a rural area shouldn’t mean you have less access to advanced medical and dental technology.

Thanks to the generous support of the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities, we are making a massive leap forward. Chiricahua is now utilizing state-of-the-art intraoral scanners in our dental practices—and the feedback from our staff, patients, and parents is already unanimous: we are delivering care with “no goopy impressions, no tears, and painless precision!”

Changing the Patient Experience for Good

If you’ve ever had a traditional dental crown, bridge, or nightguard, you probably remember the old way of doing things: biting down into a tray filled with cold, goopy putty, trying not to gag, and waiting what felt like an eternity for it to set.

“Goodbye gagging, goopy impressions with long turnaround times; and hello comfortable, quicker, and highly-detailed dental scanning!” says Chiricahua Dental Director Brianna Hillier, DMD.

An intraoral scanner replaces that messy putty with a small, wand-like device that takes highly detailed, 3D digital images of your teeth and gums in a matter of seconds.

Why This Technology Matters for Our Community

An intraoral scanner is a small, wand-like device that takes highly detailed, 3D digital images of your teeth and gums in a matter of seconds. It replaces the messy putty of the past with a fast, comfortable, and incredibly precise digital experience.

  • Ultimate Patient Comfort: The slim digital wand glides easily over teeth. There is no messy paste, no bulky trays, no gagging, and no tears—making it an absolute game-changer for children and anxious patients.
  • Real-Time Education: Patients can see their scans on a screen right at their chairside in real-time. This serves as a valuable educational tool, allowing our providers to walk you through your dental health step-by-step so you always feel informed.
  • Expanding Access to Advanced Care: By bringing these cutting-edge tools to Cochise County’s rural populations, we are breaking down geographic barriers. Our patients get access to the same advanced dental technology found in major metropolitan areas, right here at home.

A Real-World Success Story: From Months to Days

The impact of this technology is already changing lives. Following intensive training for our dental team just weeks ago, we put the scanner to the test with our very first patient.

On a Tuesday, patient number one was scanned and fitted for a crown. By Friday, the crown was delivered and placed with a perfect fit. What used to be a grueling month-long waiting period due to shipping and lab delays was reduced to a three-day turnaround.

Experience the Future of Dental Care

We are incredibly grateful to the Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House Charities for investing in the health and smiles of Cochise County.

The next time you visit a Chiricahua dental clinic, ask our team about our new digital intraoral scanning. We can’t wait to show you how quick, comfortable, and painless modern dental care can be!
