Stephanie Bradshaw, PSM RDN

Registered Dietitian JOINED CCHCI IN 2018 Why I Believe in the Mission of CCHCI

My decision to work for Chiricahua was more of a calling than a choice. “Health for All,” truly resonates with me, as a single mom working two jobs and putting myself through school, I often worried about adequate healthcare for my children. Working with Chiricahua, I now have the amazing opportunity to provide services with compassion and understanding to all of our patients on a deeply fulfilling and more personal level.

Stephanie'S BACKGROUND

My love for nutrition began in 2001 when I gave birth to my twin daughters, two months early. As a parent of preterm infants your world gets turned upside down pretty quickly. During their time in the NICU, I quickly learned how essential proper nutrition is and as they grew, I grew, and my passion for nutrition flourished in all areas. However, pediatric care will always be where my heart resides.

Since then, I attended the University of Arizona for a BS in Nutritional Science.  I also received a minor in biochemistry and a minor in psychology. The dynamic of good nutrition is more than just healthy food choices, but is also centered on positive relationships with food. My dietetic internship was a 1400 ACEND accredited program that had a strong emphasis on community nutrition. I was able to work alongside the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona developing nutrition centered education materials for children community outreach programs, as well as materials to increase awareness for the need for healthier food donations.  I also spent time with Tucson Unified School District developing and teaching food literacy classes to both preschool and middle school children. During grad school I completed my summer capstone project with Milk and Honey, a specialized breastfeeding support center, in which I spent 270 hours learning how to effectively assess and counsel new moms and babies with feeding difficulties. During this time I wrote a grant proposal that, if pursued, will help with accessibility to care for breastfeeding moms that may need more specialized care. Lastly, I am currently the University of Arizona College of Medicine Pediatric Pulmonary Center nutrition trainee for the 2018-2019 cohort. This is an interdisciplinary leadership program in which I specialize in nutrition for pediatric cystic fibrosis patients, as well as specialized nutrition for other pulmonary diseases, such as asthma.

My future goals are to become a certified specialist in pediatric nutrition (CPSN). I am also an avid supporter in breastfeeding and am currently working on becoming an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). I am so excited to be a part of CCHCI and look forward to seeing you at Vista Pediatrics. I am fortunate to work with a company I love in a profession I adore. I am here to help you grow healthy people.
