Megan Matz, MD

Physician JOINED CCHCI IN 2019 Why I Believe in the Mission of CCHCI

I believe that everyone deserves to have high quality, accessible healthcare. I believe that caring for the whole person, whole family, and whole community is the only way we can get that health care we provide to translate into real “Health for All.” At CCHCI, I am grateful to be surrounded by passionate and thoughtful individuals who are dedicated to finding innovative ways to provide that effective care in Cochise County.

Megan'S BACKGROUND

I grew up in the Metro Detroit area of Michigan. Like many of us, I grew up hoping to work with people and help them in a meaningful way. After studying Neuroscience during my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, I decided that medicine was the path that would combine my passion for science and problem-solving with that overarching goal.

I chose Flint for my clinical rotations at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and as I saw my first patients, the horrific Flint Water Crisis unfolded. I learned firsthand the importance of a pediatrician’s voice and thoughtful community approach to advocating for our most vulnerable families.

After medical school, I moved out to Arizona to broaden my training and completed my Pediatric Residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital / Maricopa Medical Center to ensure I could care for all children: those with unique social barriers to care and those with unique complex medical needs. I fell in love with Arizona and felt so grateful when I discovered CCHCI and Cochise County.

When I’m not at work, you can find me hiking with my dogs, playing piano and guitar, and trying to create the world’s best cactus garden.
