Bisbee Grand Opening August 5
PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHIRICAHUA’S BISBEE FAMILY HEALTH CENTER OPENS
BISBEE, AZ (July 16, 2019) – The staff of Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. were ecstatic to begin operations in their newly renovated family health center at 108 Arizona St. this week after working for nearly a year out of the much smaller temporary location throughout construction. The first few weeks will be a soft opening while staff get fully moved in and acquainted with the new space. Chiricahua invites the public and the community to join them at a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house August 5, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. where they will celebrate the new space and the beginning of National Health Center Week.
Chiricahua was chosen as a recipient of a $954,000 Health and Human Services grant for a complete renovation and expansion of the existing 4,878 square feet Bisbee Medical clinic to modernize, improve and reconfigure the interior arrangements of the existing facility. The remodel is a contemporary, open design that will not only increase patient capacity, but also streamline patient and staff flow. The Bisbee Clinic had provided service to 3,500 patients per year. The renovation allowed for an additional two exams rooms for a potential increased patient capacity of 1,100 patients served per year.
Annabel Barrow, Health Center Administrator of the Bisbee Family Health Center said, “The best part of opening day was the faces of all the people who walked in. This building has served Bisbee for many years, and for Chiricahua to be able to continue to do that in a modern building is awesome. We want to provide great care and we are looking forward to doing it in a great new space.”
The ceremony will also celebrate the opening of the Chiricahua Patient Pharmacy which began operations earlier this spring at 307 Arizona St. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Chiricahua was eligible to bring the federal 340b Drug Pricing Program to the Bisbee community. The 340B Drug Discount Program is a federal program created in 1992 that requires drug manufacturers to provide outpatient drugs to eligible health care organizations at significantly reduced prices to those who lack health insurance. Unfortunately, the program is not intended to allow for FQHC pharmacies to act as retail pharmacies, so the Chiricahua Pharmacy is open to Chiricahua patients alone.
David Merrell, PharmD, Chiricahua Pharmacy Director, said, “Patients have shared they are grateful to have a local pharmacy where they can conveniently pick up their prescriptions.”
The Chiricahua Patient Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and the phone number is 520-432-4660.
The opening of the newly renovated facility is timely, coinciding with National Health Center Week 2019. The annual celebration of all of America’s Federally Qualified Health Centers with the goal of raising awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers over the past five decades. Health centers serve 28 million patients nationwide and Chiricahua is one of 20 Federally Qualified Health Centers in Arizona.
The National Association of Health Centers health center week information explains, “In addition to their long history as health care homes to millions, health centers produce innovative solutions to the most pressing health care issues in their communities and reach beyond the walls of conventional medicine to address the social determinants of health affecting special patient populations.”Chiricahua’s Bisbee Family Health Center is currently open and serving patients.
